
The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) will be collaborating with the Guinea Conakry Writers Association to celebrate the 2026 World Book and Copyright Day on Thursday April 23 in Conakry at 12 noon GMT, 1 pm WAT, 4 pm EAT.
The event which will be part of the 18th edition of the 72 Hours of the Book in Conakry from April 23rd to 25th, 2026 will be celebrated under this year’s theme: “Youth & Digital Technology,” with a focus on creativity, innovation, and engagement.
This major international event welcomes publications from numerous countries in Africa and beyond, and provides a unique forum for reflection and discussion about books and their challenges, in line with Conakry’s vision as a UNESCO Creative City of Literature.
A major highlight of the Book event will be the launch of a book in honor of the late President of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli by PAWA.
The book, which will be the third published by PAWA, is a collection of poetry and essays, edited by the PAWA President, Prof Bill Ndi of the Tuskegee University, USA.
With contributions by 46 writers from 27 African countries, including the diaspora, the book will be a tribute to Magufuli’s legacy as a symbol and statesman, highlighting his reforms and his role in reshaping national ethos.
The Launch will also be the first of several events around the book, that will take place in various African countries later in the year.
