
The Pan African Writers Association ( PAWA) has sent a congratulatory message to the Nobel Laureate in Literature, Prof Wole Soyinka as he clocks 92 years, today, July 13 2026.
In the congratulatory message jointly signed by PAWA’s President, Professor Bill Ndi and the Secretary General, Dr Wale Okediran, the Association praised Soyinka’s unwavering commitment to African literature and culture as exemplified by his literary activism.
PAWA also commended Soyinka for his efforts despite his advanced age to amplify African voices globally including being an inspiration for established and aspiring African writers.
In addition to the events lined up in Lagos and London by the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange ( WSICE) to celebrate the literary savant’s birthday, PAWA will also mark the 40th anniversary (1986-2026) of Soyinka’s Nobel prize later in the year in Rabat, Morocco.
The 3-day event which will be in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Morocco, will coincide with the opening of the Academy’s ” House of Book Worlds”, where Soyinka will be a special guest of honor.
The ‘House of Book Worlds’ project which follows UNESCO’s designation of Rabat as the 2026 World Book Capital aims to serve as a major institution to promote intellectual life and intercultural dialogue, all in line with Soyinka’s long-standing ethos.
As he continues his enduring mission of the renewal of the African cultural life, PAWA wishes the erudite icon, many happy returns of the in good health and God’s blessings.
