The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) has been asked to work harder in spreading the Pan African mantra within and outside the African continent in order to correct the ‘appalling’ understanding of what Pan Africanism is all about.
Making this plea was a retired Ghanaian Dental Surgeon and writer, Dr Sam Kwofie during his visit to PAWA HOUSE, Accra, Ghana, the official headquarters of the Pan African Writers Association on Wednesday 11th March 2026.
During the visit, Dr Kwofie accompanied by his Tanzanian born wife praised PAWA for its efforts in the use of Literature and Culture to foster African unity.
He however charged the African continental writers’ body to do more to spread the concept of Pan Africanism.
As he put it ” apart from Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere and to some extent, John Magufuli, and Muammar Gaddafi, many of our African leaders do not understand how important and powerful it is for Africans to be united in the fight against oppression and neo colonialism”.
The Pan African advocate further congratulated PAWA for its decision to honor the late Tanzanian President, John Magufuli with a book.
According to him, even though Magufuli made some mistakes during his brief time in office, he was able to straighten Tanzania with some highly impactful decisions and projects.
Dr Kwofie concluded his highly inspiring visit with a promise to collaborate with PAWA in it’s onerous task of using Literature and Culture within the African continent and in the diaspora to promote African unity.
